How to Promote Your Blog Posts

Writing great content is only half the battle. Here's how to make sure the right people actually see it.

You just published a killer blog post. It's well-researched, beautifully written, and packed with value. And then... crickets. Sound familiar? You're not alone. Most businesses put all their energy into creating content and almost none into promoting it.

Here's the rule of thumb: spend 20% of your time creating content and 80% promoting it. Yes, really. Let's talk about how to get your blog posts in front of the audience they deserve.

Share Across Every Social Platform

This seems obvious, but you'd be surprised how many businesses post a blog link once and call it a day. Share your post across all your social platforms—LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter—and tailor the message for each one.

On LinkedIn, pull out a key insight and write a mini-post that links to the full article. On Instagram, create a carousel summarizing the main points. On Twitter, share a thread with your top takeaways. Repurpose, don't just repost.

Email Your List

Your email subscribers already want to hear from you—that's why they signed up. Send new blog posts to your list with a compelling subject line and a brief preview that makes them want to click through.

Don't just blast a link. Tell them why this post matters and what they'll learn. If you publish regularly, consider a weekly or monthly digest that curates your best recent content.

Repurpose into Multiple Formats

One blog post can become ten pieces of content. Turn key points into social media graphics. Record a short video summarizing the article. Create an infographic with the main data. Pull out quotes for Twitter or LinkedIn posts.

Repurposing extends the life and reach of your content without requiring you to come up with new ideas from scratch. It's one of the most efficient content strategies out there.

Engage in Relevant Communities

Share your content in online communities where your audience hangs out—Reddit, Facebook groups, Slack communities, industry forums. But don't just drop a link and run. Participate in the community, add value, and share your content when it's genuinely relevant to the conversation.

The key is being helpful, not spammy. If your post actually answers someone's question, share it. If it doesn't fit the conversation, don't force it.

Reach Out to People You Mentioned

If your blog post mentions specific people, companies, or tools, let them know. A quick message saying "Hey, I featured your work in my latest post" can lead to shares, backlinks, and new relationships.

People love being recognized, and they'll often share content that highlights them or their work. It's a win-win.

Don't Forget SEO

Promotion isn't just about social sharing—it's also about making sure your content ranks in search engines over time. Optimize your post for relevant keywords, write a compelling meta description, add internal links from other pages on your site, and earn backlinks through outreach.

SEO-driven traffic is the gift that keeps giving. A well-optimized post can drive traffic for months or years after publication.

Make Your Content Work Harder

Great content deserves a great promotion strategy. Don't let your hard work go unnoticed. Put as much effort into distribution as you do into creation, and you'll see your traffic, engagement, and results grow.
